Is it in your area? If so, how bad is it? I heard over 100 have died in Mexico.

Not in our area, thankfully, but they're saying 150 people have died in Mexico now. I just had a friend come back from Puerto Vallarta (she left before this made the news). She's OK, but she was also not near where the majority of the problems are located.

I worry the media is playing on our emotions. I mean, wow, this is a tiny percentage of people that have been hit with it. But then, I guess if those people give it to 1-10 other people, and they all travel... well, sure, it could get really bad.

So guess what? My friend who was just in Mexico was just asked by her job to stay home for the rest of the week. Apparently, a co-worker complained that she was working in the office and her bosses asked her to work from home instead. She's fine with that, but it's embarrassing.

This is like the avian flu - soooo much hype around it and I remember my dad was in Korea when it came out. It was apparently a big issue in Korea and so they had a lot of precautions taken there. But still...ridiculous.

Every year way more people get some strain of the flu virus, and people die, more people I think, than so far with this type, from dehydration. That doesn't even make the news.

They actually stopped visitation for all the correctional units in the state of Texas this weekend because of this. What they are worried about is not so much the severity as how fast it is spreading, and if something like this gets inside a prison, it will keep circulating between the co's and offenders for a long time just like the norovirus did several months ago. It's the same for schools and such, so I think that is why they are making such a huge deal about it.

There have been cases in Florida, but I am not overly concerned about it,nor is anyone else that I know of. The only change I've noticed around here is the sign posted on the door of our ER/ED telling people to report any flu symptoms. Sure, people need to know it's out there, but the media has blown it way out of proportion.

Well it's still going around and a few people have died here from it. Temps at 105 and severe coughing. Schools closing down :( sad stuff.

Yes, it's still going around but it's not nearly as bad as they made it out to be. Many people die of the seasonal flu every year as well.

Yeah, the media has blown it out of proportion. They haven't been in a huge rush to get the vaccine out, not in quantities they had mentioned they were going to, anyway.

I've heard the vaccine isn't that safe anyway. Think I'll just take my chances....
