No one’s said anything about Star Trek! Who’s seen it and what did you think? I thought it was great; a really fun ride, though I have to admit after it was over and I started thinking about it there were enough holes in the plot to fly a starship through. For example: What was Nero and his crew doing during the twenty five years between coming through the time warp and Spock coming through the time warp? How did he know exactly when Spock would come through the time warp? In the twenty five years Nero was waiting why didn’t it ever occur to him or anyone in his crew to just go to Romulus; show them the ship’s advanced technology to prove he was from the future and warn them about the destructive solar flare that was going to happen? Or worse, go to Romulus; show them his advanced technology and help them to copy it so they could conquer the Federation? Didn’t Quinto/Spock react over-emotionally in literally having Kirk thrown off the Enterprise in a rescue pod? What, the brig wasn’t good enough for him? After all, stranding Kirk on a planet with so many hostile species and such a frozen environment could have, and would have if it hadn’t been for Nimoy/Spock, gotten Kirk killed? Quinto/Spock stranded Kirk on a planet where both Nimoy/Spock and Scotty were stuck? Wow, too much coincidence for my brain to handle. Even Spock couldn’t calculate the odds on that one! On a planet covered in solid ice where the heck did Nimoy/Spock get wood to make a fire and the torch to drive off the predator that was after Kirk? Why didn’t the Enterprise; the flagship of the Federation, have any experienced command officers on it other then Capt. Pike? Remember, Spock was never on the command track; like Kirk and Chekhov, but on the science track. Shouldn’t there have been someone more experienced then Quinto/Spock at commanding a ship on board? Now that Nimoy/Spock is trapped in the new alternate time line, but knows about future events (some would have been changed by events, but a lot of things probably wouldn’t be) doesn’t he have an obligation to warn the Federation of potential upcoming threats such as the Borg? Seriously, they bumped Kirk up from a cadet fresh out of the Academy to Captain of the Federation’s flagship? I understand why Abrams did it; most people wouldn’t want to watch the adventures of Lt. Kirk serving under Capt Pike of the Enterprise (though personally I think that could be cool), but still… I really did love this movie; the acting, characterizations and special effects were as good as it gets. They did a wonderful job of re-booting the series in a way that both old and new fans could enjoy, but a little more thought should have been given to some of these issues. Leo |

Saw it! loved it! Agree with the plot problems; however, I was willing to over-look them. When I get some extra time (like starting next week!!!!!!) I'll try to write more. |

Well done, Leo! Peter commented on some of those holes, too. I have to say, though, that it was a really fun movie to watch.

Ugh..Star Trek is always full of fantasy...isn't that why they call it Sci-Fi?

I enjoyed it tremendously, but at the same time... yes, I have to agree. There are a lot of problems raised by the storyline. You'd think Nero would have just gone back in time to get Spock there sooner or something. Or, like you said, to warn the Romulans to get away earlier. Or to anything but go on a crazed rampage. It seems like people go on such rampages because they feel they have no alternatives. Clearly, if you can completely change the past, you have an easy alternative. All that said, if they make a sequel, will I be a sheep and go see it? You bet. |
