I have been reading about 3 books for the past 2 months, lol.

I am reading the journal written by the Christian missionary from Illinois to Washington State, Narcissa Whitman. She was the first white woman to come and bring Christianity to the Indians in Washington State.

Also a couple of books first written in the early 1800's, one about traveling ( it's called 'The Prairie Traveler'), and one about keeping house and proper behavior in training up young ladies ("...for those not ashamed of a modest economy").

I love reading stuff from earlier times, and seeing how much things have changed, and also gaining a different perspective from another era.

What are you reading now?

Being the music nut that I am, I am currently reading "The Fleetwood Mac Story: Rumours and Lies" by Bob Brunning, who was actually the FIRST bassist for Fleetwood Mac!

I'm also re (re-re-re-etc.) reading "The Long Winter" by Laura Ingalls Wilder, to Deborah at bed time. I've loved Laura since I was about 9, so although I'm reading it to Deborah, I still consider it reading it for my own enjoyment as well.

Could it be "Lord, Save Me From Your Followers?" -- that's probably a different book, because the title you suggested sounds familiar to me. In any event, "Lord" was a good book for an 11 hour flight across the Pacific.

I hesitate to admit what I'm reading as it may provoke other discussion (in another thread, hopefully).

Christopher Hitchens' book about Thomas Paine's "The Rights of Man"
and
Dungeons and Dragons 4th Edition Player's Guide and Dungeon Master's Guide.

(I haven't played D&D in almost 25 years...but I still have all my dice - including a 100-sider! Gee...maybe I should have posted this in the "Tattletale" topic!)

D&D 4th edition? Ugh, they have to reinvent the game every few years in a blatant attempt to sell books.

I just finished a book yesterday, The Year of Disappearances so that was 4 books for this week. I 'need' to find something here to read/reread. I might go to Ocala tonight to take myself to a movie. If I do, I'll swing into Books-A-Million or Barnes and Noble and see if I find anything amazing. I probably should make a run over to the used book store in town; however, I don't feel like going out right now.

Last night I started "Move Over Victoria, I Know The Real Secret!" by Nancy Kennedy. I'll use it as part of my devotions. I'm also reading through "John"

I'm also reading through a field guide on my camera (I really want to learn to take better photos)

They really are very good. She also wrote four books set during WW2, that I also really enjoyed.

I really was not very familiar with the Spaniah Civil War, but it's really heart-breaking; those poor people really didn't have any good options. :(

Pinkshoe...that is one of the best Christian books I have ever read! And one that would immensely benefit some liberals calling themselves Christian that I know!

Spanish Civil War, that is some depressing reading :(

George Orwell spent time in that war also, his take on it was interesting. And of course "For Whom the Bell Tolls' was a pretty good read on the subject. I love some Hemingway from time to time.

I'm going through my old books and rereading some of them. Too many books, I've been giving them away!

I'm with yngmom; I LOVE to re-(re-re-re-re-re-)read books. I still re-read some of my favorite "young adult" books, like "Light a Single Candle" and "The Endless Steppe". Hey, I still have some of my CHILDHOOD books! The only books that I could possibly give away are ones that I bought THINKING I would like, but didn't - and those are amazingly few and far between.

Didja ever read S.E. Hinton? We had to read The Outsiders in 7th grade, and I fell in love with her books. Still have most of them, although I've misplaced one or two.... I also have two versions of the movie, the original on VHS and an updated version with a rock n roll soundtrack on DVD. LOL

Read most of 'em (they ARE fantastic), have the Anniversary DVD. Snowy and I saw the movie in the theatre when it first came out. WHAT a cast, huh? It cracked me up to see William Smith, who usually plays such powerful bad guys, playing a wimpy store clerk!

I read The Outsiders so much , my book fell apart! I watched the movie over and over and over and over.... I talked my Grandma into letting me make pretty pancakes with food coloring in them... because of that book!

I had The HUGEST crush on C. Thomas Howell!!!! And Ralph Macchio...... and Rob Lowe ( until he got creepy), and Patrick Swayze was a favorite, but I never had a crush on him.....

Shhhhhh.... don't tell hubby...

LOL

Like HawkWaing, I do periodically *have* to go through and clear out some of my books. Otherwise there wouldn't be room in my house for me! (And I am only half kidding on that!) Every couple of months I go through and pull out the books that I don't expect to want to re-re-re-read, and I either donate them to the library or sell them at Half-Price Books. (And yes, I have had to go buy one of my books back a couple of times. Made me feel pretty silly.)

You are right about the SCW. Very, very sad time. Reminds me of reading about the folks in the Balkans pre-WW2: these folks just didn't have *any* decent options. I didn't realize that George Orwell had written about that time; will have to check into that.

I'm currently between books. Finished my last one at 1:30 this morning (oy) and haven't decided what to start next. I think I'll root through my book box when I get home. :)

I'm on a 'vampire fiction' kick right now. I'm half way through Salem's Lot as well as Kissing Coffins. When those are done I have about 6 other books waiting. By my bed I have 3-4 other books I'm reading.

I have a hard time getting rid of books. They are like friends and l love to re-re-re-re-re-read them.

I'm also reading the scripts for this school year, an English 3 literature text book, Oedipus Rex (for Intro to Drama next week), and a book by one of my former students that my school is featuring in a "One Book, One School" program.
